Legal Assistant / Legal Secretary
Location: Houston, TX 77027
Compensation: Up to $75,000
A growing Houston-based law firm is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant/Legal Secretary to support its litigation team. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience in a similar role, providing administrative and clerical support to attorneys to help ensure smooth and efficient office operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare and format legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, briefs, subpoenas, and appeals.
Draft correspondence, memoranda, and internal documentation as requested by attorneys.
Manage calendars, schedule meetings, hearings, and court appearances.
File legal documents electronically in compliance with court procedures and deadlines.
Organize and maintain both physical and digital filing systems.
Answer phones, direct calls, take messages, and communicate with clients, courts, and legal professionals.
Conduct basic legal research and compile case materials under attorney supervision.
Handle incoming and outgoing mail and oversee document deliveries.
Assist with timekeeping and billing, including preparing client invoices.
Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive client and case information.
Qualifications:
High school diploma required; associate’s degree or legal certification preferred.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a legal assistant or secretary in a litigation environment.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and legal document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocuments).
Excellent typing, communication, and organizational skills.
Strong knowledge of legal terminology, document formatting, and court filing procedures.
High attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting.
Work Environment:
Office-based position requiring extended periods of computer use.
Collaborative, high-volume legal environment.
Occasional overtime may be necessary to meet filing or court deadlines.
